Indian elections ’09: Phase II polls in 12 States today

NEW DELHI: As naxal attacks continue in Jharkhand and Bihar, the Election Commission has made “adequate arrangements” for Phase II polls on Thursday in 140 constituencies in 12 States.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, elected to the Rajya Sabha from Assam, will cast his vote at a booth in a school in Dispur, under the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency. His wife Gursharan Kaur will join him. The Congress has fielded Rabin Bordoli for the seat.This phase, covering the highest number of Lok Sabha constituencies, will also decide the political future of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi (contesting from Amethi, U.P.), Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar (Madha, Maharashtra), Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj (Vidisha, M.P.), Lok Jan Shakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan (Hajipur, Bihar) and Union Minister Kamal Nath (Chhindwara, M.P.).
