MELBOURNE, 16 September 2020: The Daniel Andrews Labor government in Victoria has announced a massive boost of $ 3.5 million infrastructure grants to 37 multicultural groups ‘to be enjoyed on the other side of this pandemic’.
The massive grants announced by the Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ros Spence on 14 September 2020 are part of the Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund and the Indian Community Infrastructure Fund.
The Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund grants will provide $1.1 million for 23 multicultural groups to upgrade their community facilities, with more than half based in regional Victoria.
A further 13 infrastructure projects will share in $2.4 million through the Indian Community Infrastructure Fund – a key election commitment.
The 13 Indian bodies who receive the grants are all religious. Out of the 13 recipients, 8 belong to the Hindu faith, 3 to the Sikh faith, and 2 Muslim.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ros Spence says, “We know how important it is for multicultural Victorians to have a space to call their own – and that’s as important now as ever.”
“While Stay at Home restrictions mean we can’t gather in person right now, this funding will help create safe spaces for community members to come together in a COVID-safe way, once we reach the other side.”
