Melbourne: Police Chief Commissioner Simon Overland released figures showing robberies and assaults on Indian people in the state had increased by a third in a year. Mr Overland said some of the crimes were racially motivated but many were opportunistic.
-Last financial year, 1447 assaults and robberies were committed on victims of Indian origin, up from 1083 the previous year. Indian student numbers in the state reached about 46,000 last year, more than double the figure in 2006.

As an indian i feel strongly about my brothers staying abroad.
But instead of giving just the numbers a proper analysis would have been better. (indicating total growth in overall crimes, which can give a better relative analysis.)
And to put this into perspective: how many assaults and robberies OVERALL?
I am not making light of the Indian situation by any means, but enough tempers and emotions are flying as it is – let’s not allow media to whip up more fury.
