Bangladesh elections roadmap in 15 days

Dhaka, July 01: The Bangladesh Election Commission will announce within 15 days a complete roadmap for staging the next parliamentary election within a specific timeframe.

The commission would specify the time required to complete the required tasks including preparation of the voters list by July 15, its chief said.

“The election will be held in 2008. But we will announce a complete roadmap charting the path to the ninth parliamentary polls by July 15,” Chief Election Commissioner Atm Shamsul Huda told reporters yesterday at suburban Sripur.

“The pilot project successfully put to rest all doubts regarding the feasibility of a voters list with photographs,” Huda said as Bangladesh is expected to witness for the first time the electoral roll with voters’ photographs.
