Parathiba Patil leading in India’s Presidential count

From Rajiv Sharma in New Delhi (2.20 pm)

New Delhi: Reports indicate that UPA-Left-BSP candidate Prathiba Patil is leading in the vote count for India’s President. The counting is still in phase one. Pitted against Prathiba Patil is BJP backed B. S. Shekhawat (current Vice President of India). From the southern state of Kerala, Shekhawat did not get any vote. If elected Prathiba Patil will be India’s first woman President. Celebrations have already begun in Jalgaon (Maharashtra) from where she comes.

So far, Prathiba Patil has got one lakh votes. The trend shows that Prathiba Patil is moving towards a big victory. The result is likely to be announced around 6 pm officially.
