Julia Gillard Australia’s first woman PM

Canberra: Former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia was today elected by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) cacus to replace Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, to become Australia’s first woman Prime Minister. Wayne Swan was elected to be the next Deputy Prime Minister. There was no contest as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd withdrew form the contest.
Later in the day the new Prime Minister attended the last day of Parliament.
