STV launch

From Rajeev Sharma in New Delhi

Though running a News Channel is not an easy task but media baron JK Jain’s bat has hit the ball straight boundry this time. Already running two regional channels, his company STV, on 30th Aug, celebrated the launch of four major other regional channels. Jain says it is just the beginning of fulfillment of his dream to launch at least 40 more channels from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The newly launched channels will be covering J&K,UP, HIMACHAL and GOA apart from PUNJAB and HARYANA which are already running successfully.

JK Jain, who is famous among his friends for lavish parties, was in high spirits. Bigwigs of politics, business and entertainment world were there to mark the occasion. Former J&K Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah stole the show with his speech and demanded light
heartedly that a regional news channel should not be based on sensationalism. They should raise serious positive development stories of the region which is generally ignored by the national channels. He said being a politician he has no feeling of shame by saying Govt. media projects only the party in power. Royal by nature Dr.Abdullah demanded that there must been treatment segments in every news channel so that people can wet there dry throats.

Information & Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh,Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh were among the guests at the launch party held in New Delhi’s Maurya Sheraton. One of the major attraction of the party was film actor and Member of Parliament Vinod Khanna who was slightly late in the party but stayed up to the last to enjoy drinks with his old friend J. K. Jain. He politely refused the media any interviews saying that he does not want
to spoil the party mood.

Senior Journalist Pradeep Sharma will head J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab regional channel. Sharma says that India is going to witness a channel boom in the coming
years. He added that J.K Jain’s vision would take media to a new height as India is a country of diversity and everyone wants news in their own language.
