Shane Warne welcomed to the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame

By our sports reporter

Melbourne: Shane Warne joined cricket’s elite in the National Sports Museum at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) when he was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame, during the Allan Border Medal presentation on 27th March evening.
Warne becomes the 35th cricketer to receive the prestigious honour. A tribute to Warne was added to the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame display, which is housed in the National Sports Museum, to sit alongside greats such as Bradman, Lillee, Miller, Greg Chappell, Allan Border and Steve Waugh, to name a few.
Warne is already recognised in several ways at the MCG. The National Sports Museum features “Cricket Found Me”, a theatrical presentation starring Warne that uses simulate hologram technology. Outside Gate 2 at the MCG, Warne is the subject of the first statue in the Australia Post Avenue of Legends.
“Shane Warne is a National Sports Museum ambassador, so we are particularly excited to see his great accomplishments in cricket acknowledged further,” said National Sports Museum general manager Margaret Birtley. “The museum congratulates him on this fantastic achievement.”
The Australian Cricket Hall of Fame was founded in 1995. All inductees must be retired from international cricket to be eligible and must possess outstanding records in the sport. The National Sports Museum has housed the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame exhibition since the museum opened in 2008.
The National Sports Museum is located at Gate 3 of the MCG and is open 9am to 5pm daily, except for MCG event days. Entry to the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame is included in general museum admission prices.
