Melbourne: The demand for high quality Secondary schooling in Caroline Springs and Melton Shire was demonstrated recently with over 200 people attending the West Lakes Grammar School Open Day. Visitors were excited by the learning opportunities that Principal, Robert Dullard, outlined, including a demonstration of the ‘flipped classroom’. Robert certainly demonstrated that he is a 21st century educator and parents and students alike took to him well and enjoyed his use of technology to demonstrate some of the important uses of technology in a school where the student and relationships come first. The role of the ‘flipped classroom’ in enabling good social interactions in learning was emphasized showing the technology is not the key in the classroom-the teacher is.

Parents and students were also impressed by the quality and modern currency of the uniform, both formal school wear and the sportswear. West Lakes students will be smart and comfortable.

Board Chairman, Councillor Intaj Khan, reassured the community of the strong financial viability of the school. This was important because some families still feel very hurt by the forced closure of Mowbray college in the year 2012.

We also were honoured by the visit by the Mayor of Melton, Cr Bob Turner, and Board Director Cr Bob Fairclough. They were impressed with the numbers who attended.

The attendance and interest shown gave us a great indication that we must get ready for the opening in February 2015. VRQA registration is pending with some small documentation still to be completed and the list of enrolees to be provided. It will be quite exciting to be on that list of inaugural West Lakes Grammar school students. Gail Monument, Marketing Manager, is at the school most days and would be very happy to talk with families about the school and assist with enrolment details. Principal, Robert Dullard, will commence full-time on October 3 and will conduct school tours twice a week to ensure that all those interested get a chance to see the school and discuss the enrolment of their children.

West Lakes Grammar school also is offering new scholarships. The Academic Scholarships will be managed by Kip McGrath Education Centre, Melton, on October 18 and the General Excellence (sport, art, theatre, music etc) will be managed by the Principal after October 18. Each scholarship will be worth a third of the school tuition fees from Year 7 to Year 12.For information on Scholarship please call Director Kim Dennis on 0497 784 559.
