Boxing Day Test Live @MCG – India vs Australia 2014 – key moments

South Asia Times will provide the key moments live from the MCG on Day 2 of the 2014 India vs Australia Boxing day test match.

******* Day 3 – 28/12/2014*******

5.18PM: Out – Ryan get Ashwin caught and bowled. Ind 7/434 off 39 overs. Another Indian lower order collapse in the making?

5.13PM: Kholi brings up his 150 with a glorious 4. Ind 6/434 off 38 overs.

5.09PM: Out – Ryan get Dhoni out caught behind for 11. Ind 6/430 off 37 overs. Ashwin comes in.

4.45PM: Two quick wickets to Australia – Rahane out LBW on 147 and KL Rahul out caught sweeping on debut on 3, both wickets taken by Lyon. Dhoni in now and India need another partnership to keep this game alive. Khohli batting well on 144.  Ind 5/417 off 32 overs.

3.10PM: India reach tea with 336 runs on the board and not losing a wicket in that session. Both the Indian batsmen have reached their 100s with Rahane on 111 and Kohli on 104. Australia dropped two catches which could prove costly on this batting wicket. The match is finely poised with India less than 200 runs away from Australia’s first innings score of  530. With two set batsmen the final session could be a run fest for the Indians. Ind 3/336 off 95 over.

1.42PM: And here comes up the 250 with both the Indian batsmen doing well to rotate the strike. Ind 3/251 off 74 overs.

1.39PM: 100 partnership between Kohli 79 and Rahane 57 comes up. Ind 3/248 off 73 overs. New ball due soon.

1.29PM: Rahane reaches 50 off 60 balls as India continue to chase Australia’s big first innings score. Ind 3/239 off 71 overs.

12.30PM: India had a successful second half in the first session to reach 224. Kholi reached his half century and is currently batting on 60 with Rahane on 43 runs. Ind 3/224 off 66 overs at lunch on the third day.

11.37AM: 150 comes up for India with a glorious cover drive boundary by Kholi. Ind 3/154 off 52 overs.

11.26AM: Vijay Out on 68 caught at first slip by Marsh bowled Watson. Ind 3/147 off 50 overs. Kholi batting on 26 and is joined by Rahane. Drinks have been taken.

11.00AM: India has lost an early wicket with Pujara going out on the second ball off the day.  Kholi has come in and batting superbly at run a ball. Ind 2/136 off 44 overs.

******* Day 2 – 27/12/2014*******

5.57PM: And that stumps as Vijay defends the final ball from Johnson. Ind 1/108 off 37 overs.

5.52PM: 50 partnership comes up between Vijay and Puraja. Ind 1/108 off 36 over. 1 Mitch Johnson over to survive for the day.

5.48PM: India reaches 100 which will be a confidence boost for the dressing room. They would desperately want to hold on and not lose a wicket before the close of play. Ind 1/103 off 35 overs.

5.44PM: Vijay reaches 50 with 3 overs till the close of play. Ind 1/99 off 35 overs.

4.40PM: Drinks in the final session. Ind 1/60 off 17 overs with Pujara on 2 and Vijay on 29.

4.28PM: Australia strike. Dhawan edges one off Harris to Smith at slips. India 1/55 off 15 overs. Pujara comes in.

4.25PM: The openers have done a good job for India as they reach 50. India 0/52 off 14 overs. Both have looked quite comfortable at the wicket.

3.23PM: Dhawan and Vijay in for India. Mitch Johnson will bowl the first over. India 0/0.

3.00PM: Australia wrap up the innings at 530 runs with Smith the last man out for 192. The tail enders again delivered for Australia with Harris making 72. India have a tough mountain to climb and it will take a number of individual performance and batting partnerships to save this test match. They will resume after the tea break.

2.20PM: Smith reaches 150 runs. A captains knock. Aus 7/457 from 134 overs.

2.11PM: Its drinks in the second session of the day. Aus 7/452 off 132 overs.

2.09PM: 50 for Ryan Harris. Aus 7/449 off 132 overs.

1.53PM: 50 partnership between Harris and Smith. Harris has done most of the scoring now on 42. Australian tail enders have India scratching their heads. Aus 7/432 off 46 overs.

1.42PM: India does not know where their next wicket is going to come from. They are trying to keep the lids on the scoring rate for now.  Harris has quickly raced away to 27 runs and Smith is now on 135. Aus 7/413 off 125 overs.

1.30PM: Australia cross 400 and have the dominant position in this test match. India on the back foot. Aus 7/403 off 122 overs.

12.30PM: Lunch on Day 2. Ordinary session by the Indians. They let Australia off the hook who will now be looking to go past 450 in the post lunch session. Aus 7/389 with Smith on 128 and Harris on 10.

12.18PM: Johnson Out – stumped by Dhoni b Ashwin . Aus 7/376 off 112 overs. 12 minutes to lunch.

12.17PM: 50 partnership between Johnson and Smith comes by in just 62 balls.

11.53AM: 350 comes upfor Aus with Smith and Johnson batting well. Aus 6/352 off 106 overs.

11.27AM: Shami gets Haddin caught behind on 55. Aus 6/326 off 101 overs. Shami 3/89.

11.24AM: Smith reaches 100. Another fine century by the Aussie captain, his third for this series.

11.15AM: Time for Drinks in the first session. Aus 5/311 off 99 overs. Haddin on 54 and Smith on 91.

11.06AM: Aus 5/300 off 97 overs. Haddin 52 and Smith 82.

11AM: Australia have gone off to a good start in the morning session. They have made 40 runs off the first 10 overs with Brad Haddin reaching his 50 and Smith nearing another century.

5.30PM: And thats stumps. Australia end the day at 5/259 making sure they did not lose a wicket in that final hour of play. India have done well to keep the run rate in check and will want to some early wickets when they resume tomorrow. Thats all for day 1 of the boxing day test match.

5.00PM: Australia get to 250 with Smith and Haddin at the crease. Aus 5/251 off 85 overs. 30 mins to end of day.

4.55PM: New ball taken after 82 overs. The delay was probably due to Shami going off field but he is back. Aus 5/246 off 83 overs.

4.30PM: Drinks in the final session. Aus 5/224 off 75 overs – match is evenly poised. New ball due in 5 overs.

Brad Haddins walks into the middle and hoping to make some runs. He must be low on confidence.

4.15PM: Yadav picks up Burns on 13 with another caught behind by Dhoni. Aus 5/216 off 71 overs.

4.13PM: Smith completes his half century off 96 balls. Playing the captains knock. Aus 4/216 off 71 overs.

3.56PM: 200 comes up for Australia. Aus 200/4 off 66 overs. Joe burns and Smith looking to score in this final session.

Joe Burns on debut comes to the middle.

3.39PM:  India has struck after tea with Shami claiming Marsh on 32 runs, out caught behind by Dhoni. Aus 4/184 off 62 overs.

3.13PM: Tea. Aus 3/174 off 59 overs.

3.05PM: 50 partnership between Smith and Marsh comes up. Aus 3/167 off 57 overs.

2.55PM: Murali Vijay into the attack and some plays/misses in that over. Surprise move by Dhoni.

India have done well to slow down the run rate with some tight bowling by Ashwin and the quicks. Can they keep the intensity?

2.49PM: Australia reach 150 with Marsh on 21 and Smith on 12. Aus 3/152 off 53 overs.

2.09PM: Drinks. Aus 3/120 off 42 overs.

1.55PM: Ashwin gets Watson LBW for 52 runs and India has another. Aus 3/115 off 38 overs. Marsh in and there are two batsmen on nought in the middle. Ashwin has dried up the runs and is now 1/4.

1.48PM: Shami strikes and Rogers is gone on 57 with a fine edge to Dhoni. Aus 2/115 off 37 overs. Steven Smith comes into bat.

1.35PM: Watson reaches his half century off 74 balls. Aus 1/111 off 34 overs.

1.24PM: A sharp single brings up the 50 for Rogers of 113 balls. Aus 1/102 off 32 overs.

1.21PM: 100 up for Australia after a boundary from Rogers. Aus 1/100 off 31 overs.

1.10PM: Players back onto the field. Ishant Sharma into the attach and will bowl to Rogers.

12.30PM: And thats lunch. Australia 1/92. Watson 41 and Rogers 46 not out. The wicket taker has been Yadav with the wicket of Warner.

12.19PM: Watson dropped by Shikhar Dhawan at slips. Aus 1/83 after 25 overs. Will this be a costly mistake for India?

India desperately looking for another wicket before lunch which is 15 mins away.

12PM: Spin for the first time today. Ashwin into the attach with 30 mins left till lunch. Aus 1/74 after 20 overs.

11.47AM: Crowd coming alive with the first Mexican wave travelling around the ground. Aus 1/67 after 16 overs.

11.40AM: 50 comes up for Australia. Aus 1/52 after 15 overs. This is also the 50 partnership between Watson and Rogers.

11.30AM: Drinks – Session 1. Aus 1/44 with Watson on 16 and Rogers on 27. Yadav has the sole wicket of Warner gone for a duck in his first over.

11.17AM: 17 runs off the last 2 over. Momentum shift to the Aussies. Rogers playing beautifully. Aus 1/39 after 11 overs.

11.09AM: First 4 of the innings by Rogers. Rogers and Watson are both in double figures and forming a partnership. Aus 1/26 after 9 overs.

Dhoni at the toss said that there will be something for the bowlers early, on this pitch

10.40AM: Warner gone for 0. c Dhawan b Yadav. Yadav strikes in his first over
