Veteran Indian Communist leader H. S. Surjeet dead

Veteran Communist leader and former General Secretary of the Communist Party of India – Marxist, Harkishan Singh Surjeet today died after a prolonged ailment at a prominent NOIDA Hospital. His end came at 1.30 pm local time.The 92 year old communist leader from Punjab was a veteran freedom fighter and a colleague of Bhagat Singh who was hanged for revolutionary activities by the colonial British rulers of India.
H. S. Surjeet was known as the ‘Bishamapitah’ of Indian politics. After the split in the Communist Party of India (CPI) in 1964, H. S. Surjeet joined the break away CPI-M.
Leaders of various political parties have expressed their grief at the death of the veteran leader.
