Plan your public transport trip on Google Maps

Melbourne, 23 March : Victorians can now plan their public transport journey on Google Maps.Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, joined the head of Google in Melbourne, Sean McDonell, at the Parliament Station today to announce that Google Transit is now live in Victoria.

“Google transit makes it easier to get around – you can plan your journey on public transport and, compare it to
walking, cycling or driving.” said Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan.

Public Transport Victoria Executive Director Customer Experience, Alan Fedda said, “Along with PTV’s own app, Google Maps provides customers with another way to plan their journey in the way that suits their lifestyle.”

Melbourne Office Lead, Google Australia, Sean McDonell said, “We hope that Google Transit will make it faster and easier for Melbourne commuters to plan their next journey, and give them more time to explore all this great city has to offer.”

Google Transit uses train, tram and bus timetable data to show departure and stop information, and plan the quickest route from A to B using public transport.
It also allows users to compare how long public transport would take compared to walking, cycling or driving.Timetable data will include planned service changes, as well as extra services for special events such as the upcoming AFL season.
