Twelve days cultural feast at the CWG2018 Gold Coast

GOLD COAST,15 March: Artists from across the Commonwealth hit the Main Stage at Surfers Paradise in 12 free-to-attend unique premiere party events from 4-15 April at Festival 2018, the arts and cultural program of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).

Festival 2018 Gold Coast Co-Creative Director Yaron Lifschitz says audiences will experience “12 incredible nights of diverse entertainment and experience from across the Commonwealth”.

Peaches (Canada), Meg Mac (Australia), Salmonella Dub (NZ), M.anifest (Ghana), Ska Vengers (India) and Afrikan Boy (UK/Nigeria) are just some of the acts billed to perform.

“Each concert event is a special, one-off creation starring an eclectic collection of artists, and each event opens a window into some aspect of our world,” Mr. Lifschitz said.

Globally renowned music director David Coulter and a string of international artists including Canadian punk rocker Peaches reimagine The Great Australian Songbook.

Kweku Mandela invites everyone to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday and experience new African music in Young African Commonwealth.

Australian musician and producer Holly Rankin curates an all-female lineup of international talent in Electric Lady, inspired by the movement of women rights.

Performers, athletes and the entire community will unite in Sparkle in the Sand to celebrate the global LGBTQI family hosted by Courtney Act.

The Commonwealth’s diverse spiritual traditions abound in Ecstatic, led by world-music legend Susheela Ramen (UK/Australia) with artists from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Garifuna Collective featuring Umalali (Belize) makes its Australian debut alongside a host of Commonwealth acts in Big Bang, an explosion of world beats, drums, and rhythms.

Fresh Voices of the Commonwealth serves up a kaleidoscope of perspectives with Ghana’s King of Rap M.anifest, India’s Ska Vengers as well as Australia’s David Bridie in collaboration with George Telek and other Papuan artists.

Magnifika Pacifika celebrates the 25 anniversary of trailblazing Salmonella Dub (NZ) in a night also featuring a Pacific-inspired soundscape by composer Mike Cooper (UK).

Festival 2018 and Bleach* Festival present the new musical commission Spirit of Churaki – based on the Gold’s Coast’s first lifesaver, as well as Bleach* Electrified – a night of electropop with festival favorite Confidence Man.

Opening Night and Closing Night events feature performances by Yothu Yindi and The Treaty Project, The Cat Empire and festival smash-hit DJ, Hot Dub Time Machine among others.

Located at Surfers Paradise Beach, Main Stage is part of Festival 2018, 12 action-packed days of free culture taking over the Gold Coast from 4-15 April to celebrate GC2018.
