Gully Boy director Zoya Akhtar coming to Melbourne in August for the IFFM 2019

MELBOURNE, 29 June: Writer-director Zoya Akhtar will be here at the IFFM 2019, with her successful and acclaimed ‘Gully Boy’ scheduled to be screened at the iconic film festival.

The Ranveer Singh and Ali Bhatt starrer ‘Gully Boy’ got rave reviews and was a big success at the box office.

“It’s always great to see Indian cinema traveling and transcending across borders. As a filmmaker it’s a very rewarding experience and more than that, it’s extremely thrilling to see the celebration of Indian films,” Akhtar said in a press statement, reports the India Today.

“I’m ecstatic to be invited and to be a part of IFFM 2019 which is a melting pot of cultures. There’s a huge Indian community in Australia and I’m looking forward to taking Gully Boy for a special screening and a discussion on cinema with Australian audiences”, she said in the statement.

A symphony of creativity, sensitivity, and individuality is one way of describing the acclaimed filmmaker Zoya Akhtar’s style in her signature films. The NYU alumni started her career assisting directors like Mira Nair, Tony Gerber, and Dev Benegal before becoming a writer-director in her own right.

Whether Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Luck by Chance (2009) or her latest blockbuster film Gully Boy (2019) – Ms Akhtar resonates with her audience by capturing them in interesting scripts, characters, and visuals.

Each of her works embeds a storyline highlighting a spectrum of issues facing the present-day millennial.

Her web series for Amazon Prime – ‘Made in Heaven’, and an episode for Netflix original ‘Lust Stories’ – explores people from the various economical background, all nestled in a similar situation of life.
