MELBOURNE, 12 October: Hon. Matthew Guy MP Opposition Leader of Victoria with his south east team made Sikh Community announcements as follows today, according to the Liberal Party.
1.$ 100k for Sikh games plus $25k for water provision and conveniences
2. Vaisakhi celebrations ( concurrent with Sikh Games ) $30k
3. Keysborough Sikh Temple for contribution to stage 2 $ 326k
4. Banghara Downunder 2019 – $ 15k to help with hiring of facilities
5. Johr Mela Baba Budha Sahib Pakenham announcement – $100k cultural and sports event.
6. Vaisakhi March from Parliament to Fed square Festival / $70k
7. 200k for upcoming celebration in 2019 of 550 Birthday of the First Sikh Guru Nanak dev Ji. This Grant is for the Sikh March from Parliament to the Federation Square.
These announcements are being seen in the context of the upcoming Victorian State elections next month and the recent announcement by the Minister for Sports John Eren announcing $ 100,000 events package to assist with the staging of the 32nd Annual Australian Sikh Games – the premier sporting and cultural event of the Australian Sikh community.

MELBOURNE, 18 January: In an obvious reference to the latest India Strategy launched by the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, leader of Opposition Mathew Guy today said, “I don’t want to attack anyone for engaging India”, Mathew guy said this while addressing the South Asian media here today.
Guy announced that if elected, a Liberal-Nationals government will further deepen ties with India through the establishment of a sister-state relationship between Victoria and an Indian state.
The Opposition Leader’s views come amidst Premier Daniel Andrews India tour and he announcing plans to boost Victoria’s exports – such as food and manufacturing goods to India from a five-year annual average of $ 500 million to almost $ 1 billion by 2027. Though supporting the initiative Mathew Guy said, “The Strategy does not have specifics.”
For the Indian diaspora in Victoria, Mathew Guy proposed the Indian Community Centre to cater to the social and cultural needs of the community.
Answering to a pointed question about the law and order situation in Victoria, Mathew Guy said the situation was bad because of the “weakness of the criminal justice system” and urged ‘mandatory sentencing” for “most violent offenders”. About the African gangs, he said it was not that all these people were in crime but “they were overrepresented in crime.”

Melbourne,25 March: The Daniel Andrews Labour government came under heavy criticism from the Leader of opposition and Liberal leader Mr. Matthew Guy who was addressing a Liberal fundraiser organized by the Multicultural Liberal Business Club (MLBC) at the Hungarian Centre today evening.
Mr. Guy described “the next 19 months as exciting” leading to the Victorian elections. “Victoria can do better and we will govern for all Victorians, not just chosen unions”, he said.
Referring to the Labour Government abandoning the East-West Link project, Mr. Guy said, “I will build the East-West Link.”
The fundraiser attended mainly by multicultural Liberal branches and supporters saw a cultural segment with dances followed by an Indian dinner.

Melbourne, 13 October : The Victorian Premier Dr. Dennis Napthine, has said he respects the freedom of the Press but the recent national security laws criminalising reporting or disclosure of some operations under it were ‘necessary’. This he felt were necessary for a safe and harmonious society. He was answering to a question on the issue by SAT at a media conference for multicultural media at the Parliament.
Answering to another question, Dr. Napthine said he was all for more ‘community engagement’ to discuss and sort out issues effecting the community.
Mr. Mathew Guy, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship said, “More than $ 24.4 million has been allocated to the Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship portfolio in this year’s state budget.”
“The government is working on many multicultural policies which will be soon announced,” he said.

Melbourne, 13 March: Mr. Mathew Guy, Planning Minister in Victoria is also the Multicultural Minister after today Cabinet reshuffle. The reshuffle announced by the Victorian Premier Denis Nepthine today is being seen as a step to refurnish the image of the government for the coming state elections this year end. The Nepthine government has been trailing behind the ALP in opinion polls after massive job losses in manufacturing.
A media release says, the Ministerial and Parliamentary Secretary changes are as follows:
The new Ministers are Tim Bull as Minister for Local Government and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs; Damian Drum as Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs; Russell Northe as Minister for Energy and Resources and Minister for Small Business; and Nick Wakeling as Minister for Higher Education and Skills.
Minister Guy will have the added responsibilities of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship.Minister Asher will now have portfolio responsibility for Innovation,Tourism, Major Events, Employment and Trade in addition to being Leader of Government Business and Deputy Leader of the Parliamentary Liberal Party. To assist Minister Asher, I have asked Tim McCurdy to becomeParliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Trade.
Minister Dixon will assume responsibility for the teaching profession within his education portfolio. To assist Ministers Dixon and Wakeling, I have asked Clem Newton-Brown to take on the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Education.
Inga Peulich will become Cabinet Secretary. Inga, with my Parliamentary Secretary Craig Ondarchie, will support Minister Guy in his role as Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship.
In addition, Peter Crisp will become Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development supporting the Deputy Premier with his portfolio areas.
The swearing in ceremony of the new Cabinet will take place on 17 March 2014, the media release says.
