MELBOURNE, 24 June 2020: William Dalrymple’s bestseller ‘The Anarchy – The Relentless Rise Of The East India Company’ has been nabbed by the top Indian production house, Roy Kapoor House, established by Siddarth Roy Kapoor (Ex- MD Disney India current President of the Producers Guild of India) and Dr. Madhu Chopra, to be adapted as a global mega TV series.

In a Tweet, Siddarth Roy Kapur says, “Supremely excited to be working with
@DalrympleWill to bring to screen this tour de force and captivating tableau of incredible characters!

“I don’t think I have ever written a book more obviously crying out to be adapted than The Anarchy and I can’t think of anyone in India better to adapt it than Kapur,” Dalrymple said.

The book released in 2019, encompasses the rise of the East India Company (EIC) against the demise of the Mughal Empire. Dalrymple calls it the world’s first multinational corporation run by English merchants (financed by many Indians themselves) who collected taxes using a ruthless private army, transforming itself into a colonial power till 1857, when the British Crown took over the Raj and ruled ‘British India’ till 1947.

In a statement, Kapur said, “I believe that stories that are compelling, relevant, and authentic have the potential to resonate with audiences across all nationalities. William Dalrymple’s The Anarchy is one such story. While a debate rages today around the world about the increasing power of giant corporations and powerful individuals to wield control over minds and nations, what could be more relevant to global viewers than the true story of the takeover of an entire subcontinent by a small trading company? We are delighted to be working with William”.
