Melbourne: Resham Singh, 21, of Della Int. College and his friend were beaten up at the Dandenong station yesterday. Resham was returning after finishing work in Cranebourn but got down at Dandenong station after missing his train. Two persons who were later joined by four or five later abused him with anti-Indian racist taunts.
According to information supplied by the FISA, they also took out scissors, removed Resham’s turban and gave him a punch on his face. Later they kicked him and pulled his hair and started cutting his hair. A friend was also beaten up while he tried to save him but was not hurt.
Resham, who is a resident of Sunshine West was shifted by an ambulance to hospital as he had swelling on his face and had pain on the forehead.
Meanwhile, the Federation of India Students of Australia (FISA) leader Gautam Gupta while condemning the incident of removing the victim’s turban and cutting his hair described the act as unacceptable in a peaceful civil society. He further said that he has been approached by many Sikh students who have raised concern about their safety.
For Sikhs, a turban and keeping their hair intact are considered a religious duty.

This is truely aweful and ridiculous. Someone needs to do something about this. I only see articles about this incident on indian websites. Maybe if the article was on other websites there would be more awareness and more pressure for people in Dandenong Station to do something about this kinda stuff. Seems this is one of many incidents that took place in this area. Something needs to be done.
