Attacks to be delt with firmly: Oz judge

New Delhi: An Australian Supreme Court judge yesterday assured lawyers in India’s capital that the judiciary there would firmly deal the cases relating to recent attacks on Indian students and award deterrent punishment, reports PTI.
“The courts in Australia are not pro-active. So, we have to wait till the case comes to the court. When it comes to the court, we assure you we will deal with it very sternly and ward deterrent punishment,” justice Jennett, a Supreme Court judge from Australia was quoted as saying by senior advocate JP Singh.
“Australia is strict on racism. We also have a law against racism,” she said in response to a query by Singh about the recent attacks on Indian students there during an interaction with lawyers here.
