Melbourne, 26 June: Indian students under the banner of Federation of Indian Students of Australia (FISA) today distributed Indian sweets and harmony flyers to early morning commuters at the city’s Flinders Street Station today. It was a ‘thank you’ from the Indian students to Victorians and Australians for supporting the recent struggle against attacks on Indian students in Melbourne and Sydney. The event involved FISA activists from many universities.
“Hundreds of commuters interacted with Indian students and discussed the current situation and joined in condemning crimes, street crimes and attacks on Indian students,” says Gautam Gupta of the FISA.
Talking to South Asia Times, Gautam Gupta said,“FISA has decided to continue to work with all Victorians and Australians to fight street crimes, crimes and racism.”
The event at Flinders Street station involved around 40 FISA activists and supporters. Others who supported and participated included the National Union of Students (NUS), many students of private colleges and Indian Clubs from Swinburne, Monash, La Trobe, Deakin, Melbourne and RMIT universities.
