NEW DELHI:Congress today attacked former RSS chief K S Sudarshan for calling M A Jinnah secular and nationalist and charged the RSS and BJP with trying to become “secular by proxy” through such statements.
“They are trying to become secular by proxy by terming Jinnah as secular. We reject and repudiate it in strong terms…If someone was the kingpin of communalism, it was Jinnah,” party spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters here.
“If you see the sequence of events from 1927 to 1946, you will find that if someone was responsible for the partition of the country, it was Jinnah and the British colonialism,” Tewari said.
The spokesman lamented that in the past 10 days, those behind the killing of Mahatma Gandhi and their ideological followers are once again trying to teach a distorted version of history.
“This has not happened for the first time. In the last 62 years, they have tried to twist history time and again.
They are the people who had no role in the freedom struggle,” Tewari said, accusing the RSS of supporting colonialism and communalism.
Advising Sudarshan to “take rest”, Tewari said age was also not on his side.
He referred to the Deliverance Day and the Direct Action of Jinnah to buttress the point that thousands of innocents were killed and Jinnah was a communalist.
