New Delhi: Indian Foreign Minister S. M. Krishna is expected to visit Australia in the first week of August. Briefing newspersons on the “pull aside’’ meeting at Phuket between Mr. Krishna and his Australian counterpart Stephen Smith, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs N Ravi said the Minister will be going to Australia to attend the meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum, a regional grouping, of which India has been a dialogue partner for the past four years. Reliable sources say the Minister will be in Australia from August 6 to 10.

Building his engagements around the regional grouping’s meet at Cairns, Mr. Krishna will pencil in visits to Melbourne and Sydney that host about a lakh Indian students, a few of whom have recently been victims of attacks. He will also meet local officials to understand the steps being taken by the authorities to install a sense of security among the Indian students there. The Minister is likely to interact with the Indian community in Melbourne and Sydney.

    Hello Sir,

I need passports for my 3 children (australian born to Australian mother and Indian father). The children live with me and their mother has said “no” to the issuing of passports.
The courts are taking tooooooooooooo long to decide the matter and in the meantime the children are being denied of their human and birth rights. Can the foreign minister help while he is here visiting Aus?

    Rajiv Solomon, Qld.
