Melbourne: A large number of Indians today morning assembled at the Indian Consul Anita Nayar’s residence in Toorak and celebrated the Republic Day. The tricolour was hoised by Anita Nayar and Indian President Prathiba Patil’s speech was read. India’s national anthem and patriotic songs were also sung. Later addressing the crowd Anita Nayar asked all in the Indian community to stand united and fight for issues related to the whole society. Sweets and snacks were distributed amidst celebrations. The staff and families of Indian Consulate were also present during the occasion.
The Republic Day was also celebrated in many other functions across Melbourne.
