Boxing Day Test (Day-1)

By our sports correspondent

Melbourne (MCG) Dec.26: Having taken five Oz wickets, Anil Kumble was a satisfied man today. The Aussies were hauled by Kumble’s five wickets (84 runs) at nine wickets down for 337 at the end of the first day’s play. The MCG had a crowd of 68,465 and it was Kumble’s 581st wicket in test cricket when he took the fifth wicket.

Talking to the media Kumble said, “He was happy at the way the

bowlers bowled and we were top of everything.” About Harbhajan, Kumble said: “He bowled well and we bowled good together.”

Earlier, Hayden (who hit a century) said that he enjoyed playing at the MCG despite “conditions being pretty tough”. About Kumble he said: “He is an unusual bowler and is right up now”.

Throughout the day the large crowd was well behaved and there were
cordial relations between Indian and Australian supporters. About a hundred people were removed from the MCG for improper behaviour, police sources said.
