Melbourne, 20 April: The city of Melbourne today handed over the Queen’s Baton to Delhi, the host of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The Baton was received by India’s High Commissioner, Sujatha Singh from Melbourne’s Deputy Lord Mayor Susan Riley at a glittering function at the Federation Square.
The Queens Baton Relay earlier started off from the Victorian Institute of Sports with 11 members of the Indian community ran alongside Australian athletes and in the final leg Catherine Freeman and Steve Moneghetti.
The event was marked by a Indian cultural program and Bollywood dances laced with hit songs. After Australia the Baton will head to Papua New Guinea (PNG).
