New Delhi: Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has said that the policy of not supplying Uranium to India will not change hours before his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here. Kevin Rudd told reporters in India’s capital that refusal to sign the NPT by India means that Australia cannot export Uranium to it.

India has for a long time trying to get Australian Uranium for its growing energy needs for its fast growing economy.

Meanwhile, a media release posted on the Australian Labor Party (ALP) says ,” The Australian Government will make a major new investment in building scientific links with India, with support for research efforts targeted at the challenges both countries face in energy, food and water, health and the environment.”

It will invest $50 million for the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund, $1 million for an innovative Australia-India solar cooling research project and $20 million for research into dryland farming in India, the release says.

The Australian PM is on a mission to India to sooth toes with the country following recent attacks on Indian overseas students in Melbourne and Sydney.
