New Delhi: Australia has replaced its High Commissioner in India. The current High Commissioner Mr. John McCarthy (High Commissioner since 2004) has been replaced by Mr Peter Varghese who is of Indian origin. Mr. Varghee served as Australia’s High Commissioner to Malaysia from 2000 to 2003 and was also an advisor to the then Prime Minister of Australia Mr. John Howard. A media release of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says that Mr. Varghese is expected to take up his assignment in Aug. 2009.
