The Australian government is likely to take pro active steps to plug problems which emerged after the recent attacks on Indian students. The Times of India (TOI) has reported that the Australian government has decided to carry out an audit to fix faults in the system. It quotes sources at the Australian High Commission who have disclosed that a code of conduct for education providers is on the way.
“Besides, as part of a 10-point action plan for student safety developed by deputy and pro-vice-chancellors (International) of Australian universities earlier this month, sufficient affordable and secure accommodation for all students including international students on arrival has been recommended.”
“Another important point in the action plan is to ‘‘advocate that all state and territory authorities immediately make available travel concessions for all students to help enhance their safety and security when moving between campuses, accommodation and workplaces, and improve public transport safety for all, and encourage employer and union support for assuring safe travel conditions for student workers,” the newspaper reports.
