JAIPUR: CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Sunday said the Third Front would come first in the coming Lok Sabha elections, as both the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliances had been “dismantled” with serious differences cropping up among their constituents.
Mr. Karat, who was here to inaugurate the Rajasthan chapter of the Rajasthan Bengal Maitri Parishad, told reporters that he expected all the non-Congress and non-BJP parties to come together to form the next government at the Centre after the general elections because “no national alliance exists now.”
He said the Congress itself had disbanded the UPA by declaring that the partnership with other parties would be decided at the State level and no national coalition would be formed in advance. As for the NDA, its constituents were deserting the BJP with the latest instance witnessed in Orissa.

While asserting that the national politics did not support a bipolar or two-front combination any more, Mr. Karat said the regional secular parties would find a common post-poll platform in the Third Front.
“Whether it will be a stable one is for the electorate to decide,” he added.
