By our reporter
Melbourne: Thousands of Indians, Australians and people of different communities today celebrated the festival of colours – Holi. The massive celebration and a big Holi Mela took place at the Sandown Racecourse, Nobel Park organised by the Australian Indian Innovations Inc. (AIII). The celebrations started off with the traditional ‘Holi Dahan’ where many families performed pujan. This was followed with people applying dry colours to each other and dancing to DJ music sponsored by Rhythm & Spice and Oorja Nights.

Thousands of youngsters and international students danced for hours with popular Hindi and Punjabi numbers. VIPs including the Victorian Premier’s representative and leader of opposition in Victoria Ted Baillieu were present during the occasion.

The AIII committee and many volunteers laboured many months to make the event a success. The festival of colours people felt gave the message of peace and prosperity for everyone.
