MELBOURNE, 13 November 2021: Dr. Karan Singh today minced no words saying polarisation generates negativities and that is in reverse of what Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru stood for. Dr. Karan Singh (Son of the late Maharaja Hari Singh J&K, former cabinet minister in India and Governor J&K 1952-1965) was answering a pointed question by SAT about hate politics engulfing many countries. He was answering select questions after a presentation at a webinar ‘ A life dedicated to the Nation – One of the architects of freedom movement & nation builder’ on the eve of Jawaharlal Nehru’s 132nd birthday tomorrow (14 Nov 2021). The webinar was organized by Indian Overseas Congress Australia.
“Polarisation on the bases of religion and caste remains in Hindu society and they can be countered by bringing people together on environmental issues and inter-faith harmony. And, hate is countered by positivity,” he said.
Dr. Karan Singh who was the Main Speaker and Chief Guest at the webinar detailed Jawaharlal Nehru’s big achievement as being participation in India’s freedom movement and later laying the foundation of democratic India. His miscalculations, he said, were two- a misreading of China and taking the J-K issue to the UN.
“Totally, Nehru was a giant being the founder of India’s democratic process and harmony among other things,” Dr. Karan Singh said.
The webinar was also addressed by David Klark, former Parliamentarian NSW, Dr. Pradeep Taneja, University of Melbourne, Mr. Suresh Vallath, and Mr. Manoj Sheron of the Indian Overseas Congress Australia. The webinar was also joined by Uma Mesthrie, great-granddaughter of Mahatma Gandi from South Africa.
Short cultural segments also formed part of the webinar.
