ANU’s Prof. Jagdish Chennupati among Pravasi Bhartiya Samman awardees

MELBOURNE, 5 January 2022: Prof. Jagdish Chennupati from Australia is among the 27 Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Award (PBSA) 2023 global awardees. The PBSA is the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians by the Indian Government. Every year the PBSA is conferred by theIndian President as part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention on Non-Resident Indians, Persons of Indian Origin or an organization/institution established and run by the Non-Resident Indians or Persons of Indian Origin in recognition of their outstanding achievements both in India and abroad.

A PIB media release on January 2 and posted on Twitter says, “The 17th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is scheduled to be held from 8–10 January 2023 at Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards will be conferred by the Hon’ble President of India at the PBD Convention in the valedictory session of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations.

A Jury-cum-Awards Committee, with Hon’ble Vice-President as the Chairman and Hon’ble External Affairs Minister as the Vice-Chair and other distinguished members from various walks of life considered the nominations for the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, 2023 and unanimously selected the awardees. The awardees represent the excellence achieved by our diaspora in various fields. Following is the list of Awardees recommended by Jury-cum-Awards Committee for conferment of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2023.

Prof. Jagdish Chennupati has ” Over 40 years of research experience in semiconductor physics, materials science and optoelectronic devices. Leads the Semiconductor Optoelectronics and Nanotechnology Group at the Australian National University, Research School of Physics. Published more than 730 journal papers and 280 refereed conference papers. Has given more than 230 plenary/keynote and invited talks and trained 60+ PhD students and 50+ post-doctoral fellows and research fellows. Editor or Associate Editor of many journals and book series. Held leadership positions of professional societies and Academies such as IEEE Nanotechnology Council, IEEE Photonics Society, Australian Academy of Science. Founded Acton Lasers to commercialize semiconductor laser technology developed in his research group.
