MELBOURNE, 2 August 2022: Crime Stoppers Victoria was contacted by 106,413 people, which resulted in 733 arrests and 1,485 charges. These stats have come from the Crime Stoppers 2022 annual report released today.

Chief Executive Stella Smith recognises these results are due to the community’s willingness to share what they know:

“Thousands more people are coming forward to Crime Stoppers each year. Every piece of information they share with us contributes to a safer Victoria. The record number of contacts is a great indication of the trust people have in Crime Stoppers”

Information provided has led to an average of 14 apprehensions each week and over $34 million in criminal proceeds confiscated in the last year alone.

“Every time someone comes forward with information that results in an arrest or the seizure of drugs and criminal proceeds, there is a reduction in harm to the community” Ms Smith said.

Many high-profile cases each year are reliant on the community to share what they know.

“It is a great reminder that Victorians value their safety and want to help stop crime from occurring,” says Ms. Smith. “It is not just the cases you hear about on the news that matter. Crimes that few people know about can matter just as much. Even the smallest piece of information can help solve or prevent a crime.”

Record figures are also a result of the ability to easily report crime information online. This has given a new generation of Victorians a safe and convenient way to share what they know.

Sharing what you know about a crime with Crime Stoppers is easy, share what you know today on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Up to 30 June 2022 Over 1.3 million tips to the organisation since it started in 1987 have resulted in:

106,008 charges, 27,647 arrests, and over $406 million in drugs, property and cash have been seized.
