MELBOURNE, 17 April 2025: Greens leader and House of Representatives (HOR) member, Adam Bandt, in a rousing speech today spoke of the possibility of heading towards a minority govt in Canberra, saying as a consequence “they have to come and talk to us and the cross bench” which he said was “an incredible opportunity to keep Peter Dutton out because we have seen his racist policies…” This, he said, was possible by increasing the Greens strength in the HOR and Senate. Adam was addressing a big gathering in Springvale launching the Senate campaign of the Greens.
Adam in a forthright rousing speech, traced the issues affecting the Australian voters as – people skipping meals to pay rent, hardship in paying mortgage, skipping the doctor or dentist, high supermarket prices, big corporations paying no tax, raising human rights including those of the Hazaras in Afghanistan and war crimes issues, and making big corporations and billionaires pay tax for a better life for all Australians. The Greens leader said we can raise these issues because we do not take donations from big corporations.
At the launch, the Greens introduced their five Senate candidates from different communities, to a mainly Hazara crowd at the Royal Hazara Reception. Adam’s speech covered the persecution of Hazaras in Afghanistan among other issues. The placards around had slogans – Fix the housing crisis, Dental into Medicare, Ending the occupation of Palestine, 50c public transport fares, stop supermarket price gouging…
Each of the Senate candidates introduced themselves talking about their lives and why they are with the Greens. Later they mixed with the gathering The election ambience was evident and an opportunity for candidates for networking.
