
Mr Hugh Boylan is Australia’s next Consul-General in Kolkata. This was announced recently by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong in a media statement posted in her DFAT site.
The Consulate-General in Kolkata plays a key role in furthering Australia’s trade, investment and education interests in the eastern and northeast Indian states of West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim and Tripura.
Mr Boylan is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and was most recently Counsellor (Economic) at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi. He has also previously served overseas in Pakistan.
In a post on Linkedin he said, “I am honoured to be appointed Australia’s next Consul-General in Kolkata, and thrilled to be returning to India to strengthen the relationship, working closely with the people and businesses of West Bengal, and across India’s eastern and north-eastern states!”
