Indian Diaspora: New minorities body launched in Australia

MELBOURNE, 24 April 2023: The Australian chapter of the ‘Indian Minorities Foundation’ (IMF), a non-government body was today launched here. Mr. Rupinder Singh Barar, a businessman who leads the Punvec Group, is the chairman. Mr Satnam Singh Dhillion, Chancellor, Chandigarh University, announced Mr Barar’s name, addressing the gathering. The IMF Australia Chapter, he said, will work with those in the Indian Diaspora here and are minorities in India.

“The IMF has been established to create an enabling environment to put minority issues at the heart of public policy and spread the message of communal harmony and peace. With representation from all minority communities, the Foundation aims to facilitate dialogue and cooperation and also establish collaborations nationally and globally to deliver on its objectives.

Consequently, IMF-Australia Chapter is being launched to bring together like-minded people and organisations for advocacy, networking, and engagement to create equal opportunities for all and to build a more equitable and inclusive world. IMF- Australia Chapter will promote inter-religious harmony and uphold the sacred values entrenched in all religions for world peace, ” the IMF says.

The IMF was founded last month in New Delhi. It was then announced the organisation will be launched in different countries. After Australia the next launch is likely to be in New Zealand.Today’s launch at the Punvec Group office was attended by a large number of people of different communities and views exchanged. A short video about India’s diversity was also shown. Mr. Rupinder Singh Barar spoke about the Australian Chapter of IMF.
