MELBOURNE, 25 April, 2026: India’s PM Narendra Modi is expected to visit Australia in July 2026 as part of a broader regional tour that also includes New Zealand (and possibly Indonesia). This would mark his third visit to Australia. The earlier trips were in 2014 and 2023.
The visit could be on 8-10 July or 9-10 July in Melbourne. There is no official confirmation of the dates by the MEA and DFAT. In fact, no official announcement of the visit has been made.
Media reports indicate the visit is expected to focus on Sydney, with some reports suggesting possible engagements in Melbourne, including a large diaspora event (venues with capacity up to 35,000 have reportedly been considered). Earlier indications pointed to Sydney as the main hub, with Melbourne potentially missing out on major bilateral events.
The trip could be aimed to strengthen the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. (Free trade Agreement). Some other topics could be trade/economic relations, tech cooperation, critical minerals issue, defence, Quad, and Indian diaspora.
