US tariffs ‘unjustifiable’, ‘hurt working people’ : Jacinta Allan

Victoria’s Premier Jacinta Allan has slammed the latest US tariffs on Australian meat exports calling them ‘unjustifiable’ saying they “do little to than put pressure on working people and working families”. This came in a media ‘Statement From The Premier’ (3 April, 2025) posted on X (former Twitter).

She praised Victorian farmers for working hard to generate global reputation for clean, disease-free, and high quality produce – to set a standard that today, is the envy of the world.

Most Australian-originating goods will be subject to tariffs of 10 per cent on import into the United States. These tariffs take effect from 12:01AM on 5 April 2025 EDT (3.01pm Saturday, 5 April AEST).

In 2024, Australia exported nearly 400,000 tonnes of beef to the US, making it Australia’s largest beef export market, and this figure was worth $4.2 billion.
