Katy Gallagher’s concern at the domestic violence scenario

MELBOURNE, 7 December 2022: Minister for Finance, Women & Public Services, Sen. Katy Gallagher today expressed concern detailing the financial and other consequences of domestic violence in Australia.

One women looses her life every 10 days by an intimate partner, she said. She revealed, gender based violence cost Australia $ 26 billion. The Minister was delivering the Harvester Oration at a dinner evening at the Happy Receptions, Tottenham.

The Minister gave grim stats of opportunities lost to women and the economy because of domestic violence. The fact most intimate violence took place within the family, she said was concerning. But closing the gender gap and women participation in the economy can have a positive impact, she said.

A gender equal Australia, Katy Gallagher said, will also increase Australia’s economic returns.
