MELBOURNE, 16 November 2022: The Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals have made promises to multicultural communities. Here is a summary of points from media releases emailed to South Asia Times (SAT) today:
* Cultural & linguistically diverse media – Minimum % of govt. advertising from 5 to 12 % in the first year, and then 10 % for the remainder of the term.
* Infrastructure Fund – $ 50 million over four years.
* Ties with India – Sister-state relationship with India.
* Sri Lankan Community – Relocation of Sri Lankan Library in Broadmeadows with a willing municipal library.
* VMC – Introduce a Bill in Parliament to restore the Victorian Multicultural Commissions’ independence.
* Language Education – Support for wider availability of Punjabi, Hindi & Singhalese in Victorian public schools.
* Multicultural heritage – $ 4 million to obtain cultural heritage objects for the Greek, Italian, Chinese & Indian projects.
* Vietnamese community – $ 2.5 million funding for the next stage of Victoria’s Vietnamese museum.
