MELBOURNE, 13 November 2022: It was an evening when Australia’s Federal Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Cyber security Clare O’Neil interacted with people from her constituency at a year-end party at the Oakleigh Bowling Club, Oakleigh.
In fact, she is fresh from her recent address at the National Press Club of Australia, Canberra on 9 December 2022 where she laid down the Albanese Government’s vision for how Home Affairs will rise up to the challenges facing our country.
But today was a giveback to the community that is her support base. People from all the walks of life were there and the Federal Member for Hotham, mixed with them talking and listening to them. With so many people, plenty of drinks and food around, the year-end celebration seemed to be a reflection of Clare O’Neil’s popular base in action. Of course, Labor true believers were in plenty and some of the talk spilled into the recent Victoria election and Premier Daniel Andrews spectacular third term victory. The possible outcome of the upper house where counting is still in progress also came up for discussions.
Clare O’Neil addressed the gathering detailing the Albanese government’s upcoming policies. A local member who completed 40 years of Labor membership was honoured. The newly elected Labor MP from Glen Waverley, John Mullahy and the reelected MP from Clarinda, Meng Heang Tak were at the event.
The cheerful event reminded one of the entrenched ethos of multicultural Australia.
