MELBOURNE, 15 February, 2025 : Multicultural communities now need not worry about their unique ethnic used clothes and other stuff, because the Salvos have now dedicated their Nobel Park store as ‘Multicultural Showcase’, in a bid to catch the neglected segment ready to be vibrant. You can donate any reusable ethnic stuff or cultural items for those looking for a bargain, as the cost of living crisis bites across communities.
“Every culture carries a unique story, and the initiative celebrates the diversity and richness of our communities”, says the Sean Burgess, GM Retail Salvos Stores, Australia.
Sixteen cultures were today represented at the launch of Salvos ‘Multicultural Showcase’ in Noble Park and there was no dearth of excitement among the array of diverse cultural representatives. One by one each of then talked about their cultures and their originating countries. Some of them wore ethnic dresses and big hats, not to forget the colorful sarees and a Mexican hat Sombrero.
The idea of this unique store came, said Ruchi Sharma, when she was starting the recently launched Indian radio program, as was searching Indian songs CDs from homes. Ruchi then talked to Leanne Wong, Multicultural Public Relations Officer, Salvation Army,. and the idea emerged, and discussed its possibilities to make it work with different communities.
“Give what you love, yet can’t use. Give as what you love, has a chance to bring smile to someone else, has a potential to bring food & shelter to others in need. Give as every human wants to share, to care for other humans. And, give because in the process of becoming a part of this noble initiative, we create the ripples to inspire many more, Ruchi said.
The store is full of stuff from different cultures, but Indian Sarees, ladies suits, and dresses dominate the store. The splash of color was all around and many attendees were already grabbing this stuff.
All those representing the 16 cultures were given recognition certificates, a cake was cut and a group photograph taken for memory. No doubt, this effort from the Salvos is another feather in their cap.
The communities cultures included Indian, Chinese, Cambodian, Indonesian, Austrian, HondKonger, Malaysian, Nepalese, African, Taiwanese, Singaporean, Mexian, Korean, Japanese, Paranakan, and Latin American.
