Pahalgam terror killings condemned across Australia

MELBOURNE, 25 April 2025: The Pahalgam, Jammu-Kashmir, India terror attack on 22 April, which left 24 tourists, including foreigners and two locals killed, has been widely condemned across Australia. And, condolence expressed for those who lost their lives at the popular tourist place.

PM Anthony Albanese in a post on X said he talked to the Indian PM Modi and offered his condolences.  “The horrific loss of life of innocent civilians is an act of senseless violence which has shocked the world. Those responsible must be held to account. Australia and India are great friends and we stand with India at this difficult time.”

Victoria’s Premier Jacinta Allan said, ” “This is a senseless and evil terrorist attack on innocent civilians. This violence is devastating – and my heart goes out to the communities across Victoria, India and the world that will be grieving. My thoughts are with the victims and their families and all those that have been affected.”

The Hindu Council of Australia in a statement posted on X said, ” The Hindu Council of Australia unequivocally condemns the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which deliberately targeted Hindus and killed innocent civilians and tourists.

Talking to South Asia Times (SAT, Lisa Singh, CEO, Australia India Institute, University expressed her sadness at the awful terror attack and the loss of innocent human lives:

This cowardly act is an affront on human life and a direct attack on values of peace, freedom, and civil society. Terrorism has no place in any nation, and we stand in solidarity with all victims and their families during this time of grief.”

Hindus for Human Rights (HFHR) Australia & New Zealand in a post said, ” With grieving hearts we mourn the lives lost. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families. We call for unity against terror. We demand accountability of our leaders. We do not allow this heinous act to further divide us. ”

In a statement The Humanism Project (THP) said, ” At The Humanism Project, we condemn in the strongest possible terms the horrific massacre that has taken the lives of at least 26 people—many of them Hindu pilgrims, deliberately targeted in an act of brutal sectarian violence. Among the victims were also foreigners and a Muslim local who tried to shield others from harm.

This attack is a direct assault on the values of human dignity, pluralism, and peaceful coexistence. We grieve with the families of the victims and call for calm in the face of this unspeakable loss. Hatred must not be met with hatred.”

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025 (IFFM) in a post on Facebook said, ” The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) stands united with the people of India in the wake of devastating tragedy that has shaken the region. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and communities suffering from this immense loss.

Our hearts are with those affected. We stand for peace, compassion, , and justice – and hopes that the future holds healing for every soul touched by this tragedy.”
