Piyush Goyal: Trade pact with Australia is holistic & comprehensive

MELBOURNE, 6 April 2022: India’s Commerce Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal has said the interim free trade with Australia “is holistic and comprehensive” and will in three-four months will be further enhanced. The Indian Minister was answering a question by South Asia Times (SAT) as to how much time it will take to reach the final agreement. Mr. Piyush Goyal was attending a ‘Morning Tea’ event today at the University of Melbourne, organized by the Australia India Institute. Australia’s Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Mr. Dan Tehan was also present among others.

Answering another question about the dairy industry not being part of the interim free trade pact, Mr. Goyal told South Asia Times (SAT), that every country has sensitivities and both countries have respected each other’s sensitivities and accordingly, dairy products are not part of the agreement.

Others who spoke were Professor Nicola Phillips, Provost, University of Melbourne, Allan Myers AC QC, Chancellor, University of Melbourne and Chair, Australia India Institute and the keynote address by Trade, Tourism and Investment Minister for Australia Mr. Dan Tehan. The gathering was attended by distinguished guests, India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Mr. Manpreet Vohra, Indian Consul general in Melbourne, and Mr. Rajkumar, including the business delegation from India visiting with the Indian Minister.

Later The two minister’s visited the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), followed by a luncheon in their honor supported by the Australia India Chamber of Commerce, the Australian Government, the Australia India Business Exchange and 75 Australia Celebrated India 1947-2022.

The luncheon was addressed by Jasmin Kaur, Vic Co-Chair AICC, Harish Rao, MD AICC, Mr. Dan Than, Australia’s Minister for Trade, Tourism & Investment, Mr. Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce & Industry and Consumer Affairs and Remarks by former Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu.
