MELBOURNE, 19 June 2023: Shuba Krishnan, former ABC, BBC, SBS and Nine reporter, has been announced Head of Communications at the Australia India Institute (AII), the University of Melbourne’s centre dedicated to promote support and enhance Australia-India relationship.

Lisa Singh, CEO AII in a media release says Ms Krishnan’s appointment will be pivotal to ensuring the next chapter of the Institute’s growth profile is robust and impactful.

“Ms Krishnan’s appointment will add to the Institute’s depth of experience in the political and media sectors and help build capacity to shape new opportunities for Australia-India engagement,” Ms Singh said. As the leading research and policy think tank on Australia-India relations, the leadership role of Ms Krishnan will be front and centre of our national and international efforts, Ms Singh said.

Ms Krishnan is a highly respected political journalist and presenter with more than 10 years’ experience in Australian and international media. Most recently she covered the height of the pandemic from the Canberra press gallery for SBS World News, reporting daily on the Morrison years and Anthony Albanese’s rise at the 2022 federal election.

Ms Krishnan covered both leaders during the election campaign and travelled with Prime Minister Albanese to the Pacific Islands Forum for a historic meeting with leaders from across the region. Last year she moved to Nine News in Melbourne to work for one of Australia’s most watched news bulletins, while also mentoring aspiring journalists from diverse backgrounds through Media Diversity Australia.

Shuba will commence as Head of Communications on June 25, replacing Sarah Whyte who will commence maternity leave on June 30.
