Labor pledges $ 450,000 for the 2026 Sikh Games

MELBOURNE, 15 April, 2025: A reelected Albanese Labor government has committed to support the annual 2026 Sikh Games in Melbourne with $ 450,000. Consistent with past practice, the election commitment will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles, says a Labor party media release.

Federal Member for Bruce Hon. Julian Hill MP said, ” The Australian Sikh Games are a pre-eminent event, bringing people together from across the Sikh diaspora and beyond.

“Melbourne will host the 38th games which will deliver an economic boost for our region, benefiting businesses and further enriching our diverse cultural and social fabric.

“I’m delighted that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will support this great event.”

The Australian Sikh Games is the premier sporting and cultural event for the Australian Sikh community, attracting large domestic and international crowds.

This year (2025) the 37th Australian Sikh Games will be held in Sydney, from the 18 to 20 April. There will be around 120 clubs from across the country, alongside more than 10 international clubs, coming together to compete in 15 sports including traditional games.

Planning is already underway for the 38th Australian Sikh Games to be hosted in Melbourne over the Easter weekend from 4 to 6 April 2026. This election commitment will ensure the games have the required resources to deliver a successful event.
