Sydney to host Quad leaders summit on 24 May, 2023

MELBOURNE, 26 April 2023: Sydney will host the Quad leaders talks on 24 May, 2023. This was announced by Prime Minister Antony Albanese today telecast live across Australia on ABC News Australia Live. The Quad leaders from Australia, India, Japan and the United States will meet at the iconic Sydney Opera House, the Australian PM announced.

It will be the first time the Quad Leaders’ Summit has been held in Australia. The Quad brings together four countries committed to supporting an open, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific. Working with our Quad and other partners we can build the region we all want to live in, the PM said.

The Australian Government’s Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet says, ” Australia, India, Japan and the United States share a vision for an open, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific that is governed by accepted rules and norms, where we all can cooperate, trade and thrive. Every year, the four Quad Leaders meet to discuss the region’s most pressing challenges and advance the Quad’s positive and practical agenda.The 2023 Sydney Quad Leaders’ Summit will showcase the Quad’s enduring contribution to the region and the tangible benefits we are delivering for Indo-Pacific partners.”

US President Joe Biden will join Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio at the summit. Officially, Quad partners collaborate across six Leader-level Working Groups on Health Security, Climate, Critical and Emerging Technologies, Space, Infrastructure and Cyber.
One day before the Quad summit on 23 May, 2023,  a community reception for the Indian PM Narendra Modi is being planned by the recently formed Indian Australian Diaspora Foundation on 23 May 2023 in Sydney. The time and venue of the reception have not been announced.
