MELBOURNE, 19 June, 2023: Today South Asia Times (SAT) got a YouTube video link, in its email account. Getting heaps of emails each day, is not uncommon and a lot of time is spent daily deleting most of them. Many of the emails are from the state government and the numerous PR agencies promoting this and that. Plus, the overseas emails including from new movie actors and entertainment shows endlessly flood our email account. A sort of global digital invasion, though one cannot blindly ignore and delete these emails.
In this global information war including PR all that matters is a click. The received load is overwhelming and mind-boggling. But rarely do we get a pure PR email from an Australian politician. As I was checking my email account today, I came across ‘ ‘The Peter Dutton we know’ , a YouTube video link with some text from the office of the Federal Leader of the Opposition. I decided to have a look at the 7 minutes and 33 seconds video. People who had personal encounters with the Leader of the Opposition Peter Dutton, speak about their connections, such as his wife Kirilly Dutton, Yara Alhaj (a Syrian refugee), as well as notable figures such as Denise and Bruce Morcombe (the parents of Daniel Morcombe) and John Halloran (the father of Private Tom Halloran).
They say – he can make a difference, a big gentle giant, a real human, family oriented, a very private person and the real deal. ‘This is the Peter Dutton we all know, and we hope all Australians can get to know him as well’, the punchline says.
Peter Dutton has been under pressure for reasons well known – David Van issue, loosing the Aston seat, saying No in the First Nations referendum on voice in Parliament and so on.
At the annual Federal Council meeting in Canberra, The Guardian reports, “In a speech to state leaders, shadow ministers and senior office bearers, Dutton said while the party may appear to be in dark times, there was reason to be optimistic.
“In the cycle of politics, as we all know, parties will be down but they’re never out,” he said.
“We’ve been here before and we came back and I promise you, we will come back again.”
