MELBOURNE/NEW DELHI, 21 August 2024: The Australia India Institute’s Annual Oration will be held in New Delhi on Monday 16th September delivered by the Premier of Victoria,  Jacinta Allan with a focus on strengthening Victoria’s connection to India.

The Oration forms part of the Premier’s first trip to India as leader of Victoria. Jacinta Allan was elected to Parliament in 1999 and is the longest serving female Minister in Australia’s history and Victoria’s longest serving Labor Minister. Throughout her career she has advocated strongly for Government investment that delivers for all Victorians, by creating jobs and delivering better health, education and transport services for communities.

Aimed at bringing the two countries closer, boost trade and investment, improve social outcomes, and build relationships and networks, over the years our Annual Oration has been centred around issues of significance to both Australia and India.

The Premier’s visit to India will include the opening of the new University of Melbourne’s Global Centre – Delhi.

The Annual Oration has been delivered each year by prominent figures in the bilateral space, including Australian Minister for Education, The Hon. Jason Clare MP, former Premier of New South Wales and High Commissioner to India, The Hon. Barry O’Farrell AO and former Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Peter Varghese AO.
