Virosh Perera, who earlier ran ‘Sarandeep’, a Sri Lankan community paper here, is the Liberal party’s candidate for the Victorian seat of Scullin, named after James Henry Scullin an Australian Labor Party politician and the ninth Prime Minister of Australia. Scullin led Labor to government at the 1929 election and was a Member of the House of Representatives (1910–13 and 1922–49). Scullin is at present held by ALP’s Mr. Andrew Giles MP. The electorate covers Merenda, Wollert, South Moorang, Epping, Mill Park Bundoora, Thomastown, and Lalor.

Virosh Perera’s campaign launch at The Grand on Princes Reception Centre, had liberal leaders, members and supporters pledging to work for the success of their candidate. There were speeches including by Virosh to further gear up for the voting day. Some funds were also raised by the auction of signed wine bottles and a replica cricket bat with signatures of cricketers.
