Apology demanded for wrong India map in VMC publication

MELBOURNE, November 11, 2025: The Indian Consulate has requested an apology from the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), for wrongly depicting the India map  on its publication distributed at a VMC function here. The said map with its top missing appeared in the VMC Annual Report 2024-25, distributed at a function on November 10, 2025.

The said map has now been removed from the online VMC Annual Report 2024-25. In fact, all maps of Australia, India, England, China, New Zealand have now been removed after the wrong India map uproar, in the ‘Snapshots of Victoria’s Cultural Diversity’ on page 13 of the annual report.

Sources reveal a few hundred hard copies of the annual report which had the wrong map were distributed at the function. The Consul General of India, Dr. Sushil Kumar, told SAT that they have written to the state government about the matter and want an apology for the publication of the wrong India map in the VMC publication.

SAT does not have the reaction of the state government or the VMC on the matter. It will be updated here as and when it is received.

UPDATE( 12 November, 2025)

Reliable sources have told SAT that the wrong India map in the VMC Annual Report was a ‘human error and it was wrong. The VMC has been asked to fix it. And , “the VMC will soon issue an apology.”

UPDATE (13 November 2025)

Vivienne Nguyen AM,VMC Chairperson has in an VMC update available on Facebook has said, “…acknowledge and regret that the report included a graphic representation of India – and I apologise for the offence that caused.”
